Ben Mears returns to the land of Salem, hoping that his stay in an old inn and his exploration of the town's history will help him exorcise his demons and ward off his fears, as well as provide him with the inspiration needed to write his new novel. But when two boys took a walk in the woods and only one of them returned, Mears became aware of the activity of a mysterious, malevolent entity on the land of Salem, and realized that his hometown was under siege by dark forces beyond his control.
