The gods do not smile on those who neglect the ancients

The gods do not smile on those who neglect the ancients

Author: Mohamed Al-Sahel

Number of pages: 184 pages

This book is an attempt to get closer to the Arab heritage, a closeness that does not grasp all the joints of this heritage. Who can even claim to grasp the Arab heritage? Nor does it embrace this heritage with open arms. The gods show their annoyance with those who do not pay attention to the old, express their anger at their suspicious withdrawal into themselves, and express their denunciation towards those who are not troubled by the "humiliation of fathers and grandfathers". The gods in this bleak scene waived their condition: "You must not turn around", to come up with an alternative condition: "And to pass through a world full of calls that deafen your ears, turn towards the hissing sent by the ancestors in order to deserve their company". Every reader of the ancient culture today stands against oblivion in front of the graves of the dead to lay a wreath of roses and leave with humility and shame. Every hermeneutical effort to awaken the dead (and make their echoes extend against mortality) becomes a ritual of magical evocation that makes them more or less contemporary to us.
