It is an Arabic novel written by the Egyptian novelist Ibrahim Abdel Majeed, published in 1996, and documents in a dramatic framework the intertwined relationships of the different groups of residents of the city of Alexandria during the period of World War II, as it reviewed the relationship between the local residents of Alexandria and those coming to it from the Delta and Upper Egypt, and the relationship between followers of different religions during the journey of daily coexistence with the economic, political and social conditions that shaped daily life from the beginning of the outbreak of the first sparks of World War II (1939), until the fires of this war approached the western borders of Egypt with the outbreak of the First Battle of El Alamein and the Second Battle of El Alamein (1942).

The events of the novel revolve around the friendship between two newcomers to the city of Alexandria, Majd al-Din, a Muslim from one of the villages of the Delta of Egypt, and Damian, a Christian from Upper Egypt. Within the framework of this relationship, their daily journey together is reviewed to withstand the difficulties and challenges of civil life, in addition to their personal journey to discover themselves and each of their views on religions and cultural and social differences. The novel features many distinctive female characters that shed light on the different social roles played by Egyptian women during this era.
